Boost Your Immune System This Winter

There are several small (but powerful) ways to boost your immune system naturally this winter!

1. Nourish Your Body with Real Food!

Your immune system needs fuel to work well. And the best fuel? Whole foods — colorful fruits, leafy greens, whole grains, and healthy fats. Try adding a few of these each day:

  • Oranges, berries, or kiwis (full of vitamin C!)
  • Leafy greens like spinach or kale
  • Garlic and onions (they help fight germs)
  • Yogurt or kefir (great for gut health)

2. Get the Sleep Your Body Needs!

When you sleep, your body repairs itself. That includes your immune system. Most people need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night – even grown-ups! Resting is not being lazy, it is refueling. Try these tips to fall asleep faster:

  • Turning off screens an hour before bed
  • Doing some slow, gentle yoga or breathing exercises
  • Listening to calming music or nature sounds

3. Move Gently and Often!

Gentle movement – like yoga, walking, or chair stretches – can boost circulation and help your body fight off illness. At Yoga Moves Anybody, we offer classes for all bodies and abilities. From seated yoga to slow flows, movement can meet you right where you are. Even just 10 minutes of stretching can make a big difference.

4. Vitamin D Please!

Sunshine helps your body make vitamin D, a nutrient that supports your immune system. Even on cloudy days, a few minutes outside can help your body and mind. Bundle up if it’s cold, step outside, and take a few deep breaths. Can’t get outside? Talk to a doctor about a vitamin D supplement during the darker months.

5. Mental Health Matters!

Stress affects your whole body — including your immune system. If you’re constantly worried, rushed, or overwhelmed, your body stays in “fight or flight” mode. That makes it harder to stay well. To reduce stress, try:

  • Breathing in for 4 counts, and out for 6 (it really works!)
  • Writing down 3 things you’re grateful for
  • Talking to a friend or therapist
  • Joining a yoga or meditation class (online or in-person)

Be consistent, eat real food, move your body, sleep, breathe and connect. At Yoga Moves Any Body, we’re here to remind you that wellness is for every body. Want to try a class? Explore our upcoming classes at Class Schedule and give your immune system a little extra love this season.
